What is OBC transformer?
An On-board charger transformer, commonly known as an OBC transformer, is a specialized power magnetic component and a critical type of EV transformer. It is composed of primary and secondary wire windings meticulously wrapped around a high-frequency magnetic core. When alternating current (AC) flows through the primary coil, it generates a dynamic magnetic field within the core, transferring electrical energy across the coils without a direct electrical connection.
According to the principles of electromagnetic induction, this changing magnetic field induces a precise voltage in the secondary coil. Acting as the core transformer for EV charger systems within a vehicle, it effectively steps the voltage up or down while providing crucial galvanic isolation. This safely bridges the AC power from the grid to the vehicle's high-voltage DC battery system.
